Interest in the activity of the mind (9)
Why are you aware? Don’t forget what you are doing, don’t forget why you are doing this. What is the state of your observing mind? You are cultivating awareness and watching continuously. This is moment-to-moment cultivation. The meditating mind must have the right attitude. The practice must be done the right way. Experience is always happening. What [background] idea do you have in your practice? What state of mind are you watching it with? What point of view are you looking at it with? When you are not expecting anything, when you don’t want anything, at that time, understanding can arise.

Anger is the result of your views being different than the reality
The meditative view is that it is only through the acceptance of the actuality of the present, no matter how painful or frightening or undesirable it may be that change and growth and healing can come about. New possibilities can be thought of as already contained within present-moment reality. They need only be nurtured in order to unfold and be dis-covered
If this is true, then you don’t need to try to get anywhere when you practice meditation. You only need to really be where you already are and realize it (make it real). In fact in this way of looking at things there is no place else to go, so efforts to get anywhere else are ill conceived. They are bound to lead to frustration and failure. On the other hand, you cannot fail to be where you already are. So you cannot ‘fail’ in your meditation practice if you are willing to be with things as they are.
At Savatthi. “Stay mindful, monks, and alert. This is our instruction to you all.
“And how is a monk mindful? There is the case where a monk remains focused on the body in & of itself — ardent, alert, & mindful — subduing greed & distress with reference to the world. He remains focused on feelings… mind… mental qualities in & of themselves — ardent, alert, & mindful — subduing greed & distress with reference to the world. This is how a monk is mindful.
“And how is a monk alert? There is the case where feelings are known to the monk as they arise, known as they persist, known as they subside. Thoughts are known to him as they arise, known as they persist, known as they subside. Perceptions are known to him as they arise, known as they persist, known as they subside. This is how a monk is alert.
“So stay mindful, monks, and alert. This is our instruction to you all.”
